I am about to buy a 2005 Ford Mondeo Ghia Estate which has reversing sensors fitted into the rear bumper. I use a spring leaf stabiliser with the caravan which means I can't have a detachable tow ball (because the holding plate for the stabiliser can't be fitted) and I've been told a permanently fixed tow ball could trigger the sensors in everyday driving.

Other owners of the same model car must have overcome this problem.Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi.

I have a 2006 model of the same car, with factory fitted reversing sensors. I had a Witter bar fitted (by the dealer), along with a witter bike carrier plate, when I bought the car, and they don't interfere with the reversing sensors.

Details of the bike carrier: http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/cycle_carriers/cycle_carrier_ZX88.aspx

Cheers - Kev

Thanks Kev. That is almost the same as set up I need. I'm glad to hear it does not affect the sensors.

On a galaxy it isnt the tow ball thats the problem its the sockets,  my fixed ball witter one, puts the sockets lower down on their own bracket rather than the normal fixing plates clamped with the ball, this avoids the sensors.
