Could anyone tell me i have a AKS 3004 stabiliser/ hitch and i was told on my volvo to have a swan neck tow bar fitted. I have now got a range rover and it has a small hight bolt on ball.  Could anyone tell me if this wont be good enough to tow with or what bolt on ball I should get instead.

You need one of these Alko_towball , a standard 50mm towball won't do .

on that subject I was cleaning the paint off mine today and on the top of the ball there is a flattish bit with numbers stamped in and I couldnt shift the paint from there due to the numbers. will it be okay also there was a couple of bits that were a bit pitted only about 2mm long and couldnt shift the paint from there either. was  hard going, did it with heavy wet/dry then polished it with lighter grade brfore cleaning it with white spirit

Hi Alan , you shouldn't have any problems , mine had a few pit marks from new , i just used a bit of wet n dry the same as you , then finished off with scotch-brite and a clean rag .
