Hey, has anyone out there tried any of the plug and play engine performance upgrades that are now on the market?

I've been looking at several suppliers but cant find any independant reviews of the products or any long term user reports.

Most claim to add performance, torque and improve fuel economy. Sounds perfect for diesel tow cars. I've got a 110 HDI 406 estate thats a bit flat on performance as standard. Going to get a towbar fitted in the new year for the start of the season, but want to get the engine modified now.

I'm not so keen on the idea of a total remap of the ecu as its irreversible. These plug in tuning boxes are removable at any time. Moost promise to upgrade my 110hp engine to 135bhp and significantly improve the torque to about 295 or more.

So has anybody tried any of these and do they recommend any particular suppliers, manufacturers? I've looked at www.tuningbox.com and www.dragonperformanceuk.com

Any help gratefully received folks!

I have one of the plug-in type of boxes and really like it.  The throttle response is much livelier and without it the car seems as flat as a pancake.  I cannot recommend a make as my car is a Hyundai Trajet Diesel and not a Peugeot 406.  Every diesel I own from now on will have some sort of upgrade; they are much nicer to drive in my opinion.

What did your insurance company say when you told them about the tuning box. It's something I have thought of but I backed off because I did not want an adverse reaction from the insurance compnay.

beware of SOME tuning boxes, they dont re-map anything, just fool the ECU into thinking somthing different, which with some cars will only improve the peformance etc in a short term until the car gets used to it.
