I bought a kia sorrento last year, got a bargain, it only had 8,000 miles on the clock and it now has 15,000. Anyway, I hate the thing. Far too big for me. I need ladders to get into it. OK so it pulls the caravan very well but I want something smaller which will pull my ranger 2 berth 21ft. long. Can't remember the weight now. I mean it takes £75 to fill the tank and it costs me too much to use during the week for shopping and running about. So I need some guru to give me a suggestion of what kind of car I should look for. By the way I did love my Renault Kangoo, but I don't think it would pull my van would it? Cos I would get another one. I need space inside, 4 doors and although bells and whistles do appeal, I could do without. Not very technical, but I would appreciate any input.
Kate you are right the heaviest Kangoo is 1100kg compared to the max weight of your van of 1131 so thats over the 100%.
Going on your liking of the Kangoo, the Skoda roomster is out as is the Citroen Bellingo.
Others to look at beleiving you are looking for the slighter higher driving position could be a Ford Focus C-Max (go for the 1880 tdci) otr if it is the 4x4 soft roader option the new Kia Sportage is a nice step down from the Sorrento and trading the Sorrento in against a sportage will get you better residual values.
If it is just a 5 door car you would not go far wrong with the caravanners favourite the Ford Mondeo I would have one tomorrow if it were heavy enough to tow my van
Thankyou for the reply Brian, that was really useful, I appreciate the time you took to reply. I didn't realise that if I stuck to the same make, it would be financially more viable, nor did I know that the sportage was a bit smaller, must look into that, sounds interesting. There are so many drawbacks with a large car, apart from the monumental leap into the front seat. The builders gave us a parking bay which is more suitable for a mini, or med. size car leaving no room to navigate to the garden gate with more than one shopping bag. On the caravan sites it can block the view totally from one side of the van, if we have to park adjacent. Not to mention having to weigh up the size of a car parking space and turn it down even though they are at a premium. Oh the joys!!! That's just the downside, the car is a dream towing car, and I can load it up with all the unnecessary stuff with no concience. So I can't have it all ways. Next time I come back as a 6ft. tall woman with 5ft. long legs. Thankyou again for your help.

Brian, the Mondeo will tow your caravan no problem.
