But reliability.com logs them as having quite a lot. I think from memory the Honda CRV comes out at 35 and the Freelander over 200 (higher the number the worse they are).
Not all models are available on the website but Nissan and Toyota (all models) come out around 66
But being 4 times worse than nothing is nothing. So I wish you luck and happy towing.
Hi Alan. I tow with an 03 Freelander (has the BMW TD4 engine) and tows great. I think the one you have has the rover engine which i beleive is not so reliable so not sure how that will tow and the reliability facor!
Thanks for replies so far. Not sure I made the right decision, but traded in a 98 Shogun, 3000 cc against it. It drunk so much petrol and thought that the Freelander would be a more cost effective solution.
I wouldn't worry too much, you hear some horror stories about the problems with Freelanders and others swear by them and have had them for years without any problems.....same as any car I suppose. I'd probably get a local garage to give it a quick check over then at least your mind wil be at ease.
I think most of the problems are with the 1.8 petrol engine model the TD4 are a lot better

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
We had a diesel freelander on a T plate. Towed our TT with it twice and twice came home with the landy on the back of a tow truck. The viscous coupling seizes and smashes the IRD box - lots of money!!
The mitsi we now have is far more reliable, may cost more in diesel but cheaper than having to keep repairing a freelander.
