We have it and love it, built like a tank, the auto only returns about 25 mpg. Loads of space.

my hubby has the new one, but he cant use it as a tow car as you have to cut away at the bumper to fit the tow bar and the car is a fleethire one

Excellent Car I'm now on my 3rd in 10years & wouldn't/don't plan to change to any other make or model. Had two petrol models but found them to be a bit thirsty when towing, now have a D5 & get about 30+ when towing & high 40s when solo.

Enjoy you new car, keep it serviced & I'm sure you will get many trouble free miles from it.

have 2.4 petrol 170bhp 1999, owned for 5yr, towed with for 2yr.

great car when not towing tho MPG 24

I do not think this is a good towcar re v light for its size (1400kg) which limits caravans that can tow. feels gutless for towing compared to normal driving. The diesel may be better re kerbwt/torque.

my towing mpg average is 15mpg!!

hope useful

I've a V reg (1999 last of the old shape) 2.5 TDI and really like the car. I've not worked out the mpg but get 600 miles to a tank solo although it's now £75 to fill up!

Lovely to tow with, very stable. The kerbweight is a bit light (mine is 1415kg, if the weight is not on the reg document your Volvo dealer should be able to get you the info if you tell them the reg number), but there are plenty of caravans within it's weight range.

I know some people have needed to upgrade the rear suspension as the estate can ride a bit low at the back when towing, but I've no had a problem. Have a look when hitched up and see if the car and van are level.

A huge boot can get enough caravan gear for 5 of us with relative ease.

It's a really comfy driving position and touch wood, mine has been very reliable over the 3 years I've had it, theres 130,000 on the clock and apart from ordinary servicing hasn't needed anything doing.

I'd have another! Enjoy your new car.
