I took a 2001 CRV out on Saturday, quite liked it but found the seat quite short and narrow as I do with most Hondas having looked at a Jazz 4 years ago.
Haven't driven a RAV4 yet, but does anybody have any comments on the 2000/2001 era of either cars? Reliability, comfort and in particular the autos?
We had a 2000 X reg CRV ES Executive. Got it as a company car with 9K on it. Ran it until it was 3 years old. Apart from tyres and servicing it had a pair of discs. At 80k and 3 years it needed its first MOT and I thought it needed a new exhaust as it was rattling. Just needed a clamp tightening.
We found the leather seats very comfortable and loved the armrests (missed them on the replacement X-Trail). Now got a Mk3 CRV. We looked at the new RAV but the boot isn't big enough for the dog cage.
When looking for a tow car I test drove a Rav 4 and it felt tinny and noisey. The rear door doesn't open all the way either. It was a 99 model. I settled on a high milage Honda CRV Mk1 (99 petrol model) and with 138,000 miles on the clock was brilliant. I px'd it at 143,000 miles for a new CRV diesel.
hi snowy. we have a 2002 cr-v, 2L SE sport petrol version and we love it. its reliable, never let us down yet (touch wood), its great for towing our trailer tent, llots of space in the front and back seats and the boot space is phenomenal. i would stick with a cr-v forever but i think with the tax rises we might be rethinking our car. the main reason for that is because my other half drives over 60 miles a day and works 7 days a week so the petrol is a bit steep. i believe the diesel models are more economic though. hope this helps.
My old Honda CR-V was a little heavy on petrol at around 29 mpg solo, not sure what it was when towing, but it had done 143,000 by the time I px'd it. Never had a problem with it.
We changed to a new CRV diesel and so far I'm getting 42 mpg (Urban) with 3000 miles on the clock so I'm expecting the mpg to improve a little more as the engine runs in. Towing I got about 35-37 mpg on the last trip, but again I'm expecting this to improve as time goes on. I haven't taken it on the motorway for any length solo yet so can't say what that would be like.
Overall with 3000 miles of combined solo and towing I've done around 35 mpg which on first look isn't great but some of that was towing when the car had only done around 600 miles which used up more fuel. The second time of towing gave better figures.
