-----click here to find max towing weights of most cars. you will need to know the fully loaded weight of you caravan of course. its best that your caravan weighs no more than 85% of the weight of the towcar but its not illegal to tow right up the the car's maximum tow weight.

Shoguns are well known for being poor on economy!

The problem with that weight is that there aren't too many ordinary cars with KWs in the mid to upper 1700s. You're looking at something like a high-end Volvo V70 TDI estate. Possibly also an A6 Allroad, but they don't come cheap!!

I doubt even a Volvo V70 is heavy enough.   For our 1815 kg Sterling we need an XC90. Ours is the D5 184bhp engine, geartronic.

Towing with it, we are averaging 25mpg.

Sizzler,

If your twin-axle has that sort of ULW then it's MGW will indeed be around what you're reckoning. And for that weight and size of van you really are looking at a 4x4 for safe and comfortable towing.
