D3 is a lovely car, as is the Rangie Sport, if I could afford it I would have one, but our Kia sorento  cost less than a freelander (which is a nice car).Simple economics!

I enquired about the basic Disco 3 ( 5 seats, manual,no air suspension or other gizmos) The salesman was surprised and did not have one we could look at!

I told him we did not need 7 seats, were quite happy without the gizmos! The old Range Rover we had at the time was very capable with the standard suspension and no complex electronics to break. I think most of the buyers go for the top spec models!!

Basic D3 is lighter, simpler and will be cheaper to run, it still has aircon which we wanted!

I love Landies , I would have a new Defender but the OH says no! Sorento has all the toys and costs much less.

Two Hyundai Tucsons. As a matter of interest, I tow most of the time in 6th gear with no need to change down.
Hardly suprising really as what you are towing is not that heavy

But in fairness with what you tow you are hardly testing the car to the limit.

I thought the only 'proper sized' Japanese towing machine was a Land Cruiser?

i have owned 2 discos a 200 & 300 both good cars solo not quite so good for towing.Fact is its a heavy car and engine to small. Now tow with a freelander td4 quite a different story smaller engine lighter car but a fantastic tow car.The van i tow is a bailey pagaent so its not a small van to pull.Would recommend.

I have a 300 Tdi Disco and tow a 1300 kg unit. I have never found a lack of power driving all over North Wales, however the problems I did encounter were the result of a very old radiator which caused a cracking of the cylinder head. the car would pull like a train (not fast but consistent) until I came across a long shallowish hill which causde the temp to sky rocket. Pressure testing the head showed a that it was cracked. one ot the best places for spares at a decent price is Overlandrs (yes thats the right spelling) in Liverpool

I once questioned the pulling ability of the BIL's lorry to which I got the short answer "How fast would you go with 20 ton on your back and my foot up your ar*e?"
