Believe me, you absolutely do NOT want to tow a caravan on the B4518 road from Tylwch to Machynlleth.

Instead of turning off right at Rhayader, continue along the A470 going past Llanidloes (on the bypass) towards Caersws - where the A470 takes a left through Caersws & on towards Machynlleth.

When I showed hubby your route on google he winced...even in a car it wouldn't be first choice. It is VERY hilly - mostly one-lane, little more than farm track in places.

It won't make any difference to your journey time as it is all good main roads.

Totally agree with that after reading the route again.Didn't notice it directed you that way. The A470 is a good road.

I have used the Hendre Mynach site at Barmouth on many occasions and would recomend it as you can park the car and forget about it, just take a flat stroll or cycle along the prom into town, we tend to use the site as a weekender as it's only a couple of hours hop from Holyhead and the kids love playing  wave dodging with the big waves that crash over the prom wall...... just take plenty of dry clothes lol

I tow from Mid to North Wales a few times every year. Every year my sat-nav tries to send me that way and every year I ignore it. Agree with Caddyclan 100%
