hi, yes we have the XC90 SE D5 Geartronic 185bhp, now 2 years old. very good towcar, we pull 1900kg MTPLM no problem.
we bought new, a retirement present for ourselves, and later a new caravan too. this will be our last towcar, so we expect it to last 10-15 years at least.
sizewise, it is actually very slightly shorter than our beloved Volvo 940, but much fatter. compared to many 4 x 4s, it is an elegant car, so we are well pleased. having owned only Volvos since 1971 it was a natural progression for us.
very comfortable, plenty of space, no problems so far. it is hard on the front tyres, ours will need changed very soon at only 19000 miles. keep an eye on wheel alignment too, all 4 wheels, ours was well out at the recent service. servicing by Volvo is about £400 per annum, as is road tax on ours, so not cheap, but very reliable.
previous Volvos have not had any problems. we sold our 1994 940 to our postie's MIL last year, 140000 miles on the clock, it never needed anything other than servicing
we have the detachable towbar with 13 pin electrics and have changed the van to 13 pin too.
19000 and still on original front tyres is not heavy use in my opinion. I am guessing that your 940 was rear wheel drive. I have to admit I would be over the moon to get over 19000 miles out of a front or all wheel drive car.
Just make sure the 4 wheel drive is working on the rear. there has been problems with it only working in front wheel drive. & you will not no about this & till you are stuck. This come to light when it snowed & XC90s got stuck. No noise no warning lights. My XC70 had work done on it in 2007 no rear wheel drive. BIG bill.

I changed my Audi's fronts at 28k and the rears are ready now at 38k. When I had a V40 Volvo we were lucky to get 15k on either fronts or rears.
