Hi all, I have just been away with my new CRV It tows well and the visibility is great but boy am i gutted at the fuel economy when towing. We usually tow with a Mondeo and get 36mpg. I thought the CRV would be possibly not quite as good even though its a better matched vehicle but i only got 24/27 mpg. Both are diesel by the way. Any thoughts on how i could improve this like how i load etc.
Hi debbie had same car as yours, never got more then 29mpg ,towed better in 5th gear on long runs, very nice car though ,but overhall disapointed with mpg, andy
we got a similar MPG when towing. I normally get something in the low 40s but could only get 25 mpg when towing. I couldn't even get from SW Scotland to Wales on a single tank of fuel
Usually we get 30 ish towing .New caravan Quasar 534 only managed 25 but this was in peak district near Holmfith on small steep roads. Towing to Chester after caravan appeared to free off got back to normal 30ish.
I usually get 45 solo
I towed our bailey 620/6 for the first time yesterday with our week old CRV. Not far, about 12 miles back to storage. Reset fuel trip before set off and only got 22 mpg. Gutted I was, and still am. Hope it gets better with a few more miles on the clock.
It's difficult to generalise as MPG will depend on the weight of the van/aerodynamics and driving style. The best I have had is 29 mpg and average of 26.8 over 6000 miles towing.
