Hi

I have just had a new detachable towbar fitted and i have a silly question.

Do i need to remove all the paint from it and grease it before i tow for the first time?

It is an unbraked trailer tent i shall be pulling.

No need to remove paint but I would put a little grease on the towball though. It reduces friction and squeaking noises.

It might be worth explaining that an alko stabiliser tightens up on the towball and grips it with a couple of brake pads. So that's why you never grease these.

If it's the most basic hook-up , all it will have is a single lever and be an aluminium colour, then these don't grip and you need some grease.

On an unbraked trailer tent you are likely to have the latter.
