you did what? you got in the third lane while towing? that is totally illegal, you never ever go in that lane ever!!!! no matter what.

I thought it was the outside lane when three or more lanes are available that you were not allowed to tow in actually. It could be that the stretch in question had 4 or more lanes. Also you are allowed a reasonable distance to move across when a lane is added to the left.

Ok., we're home safely after about 2000 miles in France. Increased the noseweight as suggested, set suspension to sport and we had a comfortable stable trip - wow., what a difference. I am now a happy bunny and thank you all for your advice!
