I'll happily stand corrected, but isn't it a requirement to have either a sounder or in-dash lamp that the trailer/caravan indicators are going ok? ------------- Paul

No way was I going to have one of those bl**dy bleepers. Years ago, our local tow-bar "specialist" said "you will have to have a buzzer, warning lights are a thing of the past" So (our car then was a Mk 3 Cav) when I saw the trailer symbol warning light in the handbook control illustration, I just went and bought a flasher unit with the extra terminal and popped it in place of the original. Job done.
Our current tower, a Rover 45 TDi, has no wiring or warning light but I just slaved in one of the afore-mentioned type of unit and fitted a warning light in one of the spare switch blanks. Result. I know that some cars have their flasher unit built into the panel (like our Focus I had before the Rover) so you can't just replace the unit. But then I wrote that off (not because of that, honest...)
