HI, We're just about to upgrade from our trailer tent and will be getting a caravan. Could anybody recommend a course/lesson for towing the caravan in the birmingham/west midlands area please?
The Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club both offer towing courses. The dates and locations are on their website. We are hoping to buy a van before next Spring and intend to do the manouvering course before we buy.
I'm with the CCC and phoned them for a price and the locations where they hold their manouvering courses, then I phoned the CC and asked them the same questions. The CC were slightly cheaper and they held the course nearer to my house. It was a few years ago now, but it was about £78 roughly for a one day intense course. The instructors were very friendly and I would recommend the course, above all it helps to build up your confidence. Some insurers give you a little discount on caravan insurance once you have completed the course. After driving in and out of cones all day long, I realise just what skill these HGV lorry drivers have!
Enjoy your course.

The club courses are absolutely the best thing anyone can do, if only to be taught how to hitch up safely (and quietly!).
If there are no club courses in your area, some agricultural colleges also teach trailer towing courses - although they will not be geared towards caravans.

If the Club courses aren't convenient or you need more intensive tuition, look in yellow pages or Thompsons for a local driving school who advertise "B+E" tuition.
