I'm about to buy a CRV (when I can find the one I want) but still not 100% whether to get the ES or go for the EX.Has anyone bought an ES and wished they had gone for an EX? I know I can get a newer and lower mileage ES for the same price as I would pay for a slightly older and higher mileage EX but would I regret not getting the higher spec?
I'm buying used not new and it will be a car I have to keep for several years so I need to make the right decision!

Hi , we bought the ES and to be honest the difference in spec between the EX is only bigger alloy wheels , Sat Nav , reversing camera and a few more minor differences . I could have afforded either but decided to keep the extra 2500 quid .
The ES has good level of equipment including parking sensors and most important cruise control so personaly if your buying second hand get the newest for your money
We have the ES version too. Very pleased with it apart from an ongoing problem with the paint. As previously mentioned, it scratches VERY easily. Ours is black, never again. Silver cars for me from now on. Couldn't justify the extra cost for the EX model for the little differences there is.
I tow a twin axle bailey 620/6 ranger and it manages no problem, however, I only get 22 to 24 mpg when towing and about 35 average otherwise.

We went for the ES with the sat nav and reversing camera, we only had the choice of two colours silver being ine of them so thats what we went with. very pleased with it went down to cornwall towing got about 25mpg
Neil and Lena-been keeping an eye out for your posts,as I know you recently changed to a CRV and have been away,so I guess all went well and you're happy with the CRV?
I like the sparkle grey pearl,just sold my black car (Astra) it looked good when all polished up but keeping it that way was a full time job,so I will not be choosing black again!
I've been driving CRVs since 2002, solo and towing. All were brand new (leased) petrol and diesel, and have never had a single problem with any of 'em.
Fuel consumption as follows for a <10,000 mile diesel engine:
Solo round town ~ 38 / 40 mpg Solo on a run ~ 42 / 50 mpg depending on speed. Best ever - 55, worst 36
Towing 1300kg ~ 29 / 34 depending on speed and wind direction Towing 1500kg ~ 27 / 32 again depending on the above
Petrol engines - a lot less (all were the Mk2 shape and less than 10,000 miles)
Solo round town ~ 25 / 28 mpg Solo on a run ~ 30 / 35 Towing 1300kg ~ 22 / 26 mpg

I'm enjoying following this thread, as I too am interested in the CR-V, but I've read several reports/reviews stating that a lot of them can be very notchy in the low gears, especially 1-2 and 2-1. Has anyone on here noticed that?

Hi neil and lena, well, finally took the plunge and bought an '07 EX. Very pleased with it, and no problems with the gear-change. However, it seems to be quite noisey at speed, and I have my suspicions that that is down to the tyres. I notice the dealer has fitted Kuhmo's on the rear, and I think these may be the problem. Any recommendation on what's most suitable?
Hi Eddie you will not be disappointed with the CRV they are a good Tug as for tyres my one came with Continental M+S and there seems to be little road noise
Enjoy the new car and if was you i would live with the noise untill tyres need changing although it would probably annoy me . KUHMO'S are not bad but there budget tyres and would not be my choice
