Alan you beat me to it although unless I am mis-reading the OP all he wanted was to know the weight of his loaded caravan.
in 26 years as a public certified weigh bridge operator I have yet to have a caravaner ask me to weigh individual axle weights, Moter homes yes but not a caravan.

i dont know how many axles op. has .but like you been using a weigh bridge for years . i have weighed mine several times but then i use mini artic as a caravan. i was only trying to be helpfull . thought every body knew how to weigh things live n learn. could be good practice if every caravaner weighed their rigs then they would get it right. cheers alan.

Hi All!

Thanks for your input. All this weighing individual axles and adding and taking away has got my head in a bit of a spin. And its not because I am a woman, it just seems to have become very technical and a little bit beyond my understanding. Before I posted the original question, I had emptied everything out of the van and weighed it using my bathroom scales. I have only 150kg available and lost 12 by having a motor mover fitted. Having done the CC towing course and learned all about weight and towing, I want to get it right (and don't actually needthe mover now!). I might add my OH thinks I am going a bit OTT but I want to be safe. Have found a weighbridge at my local recycling centre and  a commercial one nearby. Hopefully when I go, they will know what they are doing. Thanks everyone.

Jean

sjr66 - don't worry about all the stuff about axle weights, it's not at all relevant to your caravan.

sjr forget axle weights you don't need to know them only the weight of your van on its own loaded with the gear you normaly carry. When you take your van try to choose a quiet period and explain that you need the weight of your van on it's own.

Smile nicely at the weighbridge person and they might tell you the weight verbaly for free.

Well it worked on me.

Thanks Grumbleflick.

If I go to a local one, will I need to unhitch the van to weigh it? My local recycling centre has said they will weigh it unofficially but I don't know if my car will need to be unhitched. The 'plate' that it seems to go on seems very big and I don't know if my car would be clear for the weight just to register the van. You may gather that this is all a kind of foreign language to me and I may well be barking up the wrong tree!

Yes you will need to unhitch your car and drive it of the weigh bridge to get the weight of your Van, most weighbridges are long enought to take a artic.
