We are looking to change the Wifes car and she really fancies a Picasso. It would be handy if we could use it to tow our Lunar Clubman 400 (ULW 800Kg)but after our first test drive in a Picasso on Saturday i very much doubt it.The car was a 2002 2.0 HDi with 67k and FSH but it was really gutless. Her car at the moment is a Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi 90 (same BHP) and even with 211K on the clock it is very nippy and economical, miles better than the Citroen. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or did we just test drive a bad one? We normally tow with my 406 HDi 110 with no problems and thought that the Picasso with 2.0HDi engine would be better.Any advice on the Picasso would be appreciated.

Regards,
Steve.

We used to have the 2.0 hdi picasso 90 bhp and boy oh boy was I glad to change it for the current vectra (115 bhp) - 55 to 60 all the way down to cornwall - hardly slowing at all for the up hill drags on the A30. The previous year in the Picasso it was down to 30 mph on some of them!

90 BHP is pretty weedy in terms of towing capability.

I disagree. We have a 1.6 HDI Picasso (new version engine)92HP and it tows beautifully. We recently took our 1000Kg van up to Derbyshire and it towed it no trouble up the hills of the High Peak area only having to go down to 3rd gear at 40mph on big hills. I used 5th gear most of the journey while driving at a constant 50 mph on cruise control and 55 on duals. Engine temp was normal all the time. It was the first time away for us and I was really impressed with the outfit - pleasantly surprised!

The engine is the same in both cars you describe if they are the same yr, I think, so the car you test drove could be a bad one. If you like the Citroen try another one.
