hi can i just say ive just driven from doncaster to skegness furthest ive driven towing our van and it was great, weve always stayed local most 22miles away, i took advice from here loading and checks etc etc, and all went great, only quibble i had was got a bit of a convoy going as i didnt go over 40-45mph, so felt i was holding some people up, sorry if you were stuck behind me
Don't worry - go the speed you feel safe at, and quite soon you will gain the confidence in your abilities to (perhaps) go faster - I know that sometimes I have felt frustrated by some one travelling (IMO) slowly, but thankfully I have never put myself or others at risk trying to get past. Never let anyone pressure or bully you into going faster or taking chances; you should show consideration to other road users, but not at the expense of your own safety...

If you're on single carriageway roads with national speed limit you're limited to 50mph when towing, cars 60mph and lorries 40mph so some people are going to be held up anyway.
If you went faster and had an accident they'd be held up even more. If you weren't there and they went faster they might have had an accident. Who knows.
Good for you Gaynor. I've been driving heavy plant & lorries for over thirty years & I'm the same when towing our caravan. I never do anything to intentionally hold anyone up, but I only drive at a speed where I feel I'm safe and in control.
When I took my HGV back in the 70s, my instructor told me to always ask myself if I can stop my vehicle doing what it's doing & make it do something else. If the answer is yes then I'm in control.
Anyone behind me has a number of options if they're unhappy. They can, overtake, stay where they are, take an alternative route or stop for five minutes. I never allow anyone to intimidate me into driving at a speed I'm not happy with.
