Just returned with a chocka Zafira from France and decided that next year we have to seriously consider a trailer. My wife thinks we should be spending more money and buy the erde 153 I think the 142 would suffice.
Do you think the 142 would be used or should we go for an alternative brand. In the coming years we will want to take our bikes. with towing a trailer would you suggest attaching the bikes to the top of the trailer, on the roof, or would the systems that attach to the tow ball that allow you to tow in addition to a bike carrier.
No because a pound to a pinch of salt that you will come back next year with a chocka 142 and she will say "I told you we should have bought the 153" You can get hard covers for these trailers and bars for the bikes I have also seen some people just lay the bikes on top (obviously with protection) and strap them down with no problems
We had the 122 and then upgraded to the 193 - you definitely need the biggest you can afford! We have the ABS lid, bars and bike racks. We also have a MaxxRaxx tow-bar fitted bike rack which will take 4 bikes although only two when towing as the trailer would crush four bikes on tight turns. Erde are a great make, although if buying from new you have to build it yourself. We keep our trailer full of gear outside all year round with no damp problems.
------------- Hotels Suck. Villas are great but I can't take my Cadac on the plane....
If you are going to have a trailer I would have thought you might as well use a bike rack actually on the trailer.
Also check the ferry fares to France & decide if its worth it. Unfortunately they charge the same for a small trailer as they do for a caravan. ie considerably more than a solo car.
What ever size you think you need, go for the next size up!
There's nothing worse than buying it and finding you really should have got the bigger one. That's from my experience though.
And remember, wives are always right. That's what mine tells me anyway!
Agree with Kabbes about the ferry prices. It can be worth having a bike rack for the car as well as the trailer - we take our bikes places (on holiday and at home) without the trailer.

Thanks for all your advice I had not considered that a trailer any size (travelling by ferry) would be the same price as a caravan is that really true.
