I drive a Skoda Roomster, and on checking my tyre pressures prior to setting off with the trailer tent, I was quite surprised at the difference in the suggested pressures for unladen or laden.

For unladen/normal use the sugested pressures are:

Front 32 psi

Rear 30 psi

For laden/speed/towing:

Front 34 psi

Rear 46 psi

Now this seems to be quite a difference on the rear tyres, and I must admit to cringing as I blew them up! So can anyone advise me, if I am doing a mixture of town driving and motorway driving at speed, which pressures should I use?

It did feel very 'bumpy' when the rears were at 46 after I unhitched, but it towed like a dream.

Any thoughts?

You should have the pressures set at fully laden if you are towing. Once on site its ok to drive unladen at the higher pressures. If you are staying for a week or so its better to adjust the pressures, some caravanners carry a tyre pump so they can easily adjust pressures. The large difference in laden/unladen pressures is normal, my Berlingo is similar.

If your normal driving when not towing is 2 in the car & little luggage, drive with the unladen pressures in town or on the motoway.

Its worse to drive laden at the unladen pressures than vice versa.

I tow with a Skoda Octavia and the quoted tyre pressures for mine are almost identical.

I'm sure that if that's what V.A.G say that is what V.A.G mean.

Great cars!

The max psi for the tyre will be on the sidewall somewhere, it will be well above the fully laden pressure.

My C4 grand picasso is 49 psi for the front and 46 psi for the rear seems very high but does tow the van better like that.
