I am a qualified Driving Instructor with over 8 years teaching experience, working for BSM at the moment. For the last year or so, I have been teaching MoD people to tow trailers and getting them through the B+E test.
Would anyone be interested in a meet which would include lessons in how to tow, and how to reverse caravans / trailers ? This could either just be for experience, or to actually take the B+E test as well. Maybe you tow the caravan to the site, but would like lessons for a partner who might not be as confident towing ?
Would this be something people would be interested in, or is it something that has been tried in the past and hasn't worked ?
If people are interested, I will be happy to try to source a site (probably in the South West). I havn't realy thought of the cost involved, but I imagine it would be cheaper than general commercial towing courses.
I have been on a couple of meets in the South West and know a few posters, however I don't post much, so sorry if this has been suggested in the past.
Provided I update BSM with driver details I will be insured teaching in my Astra with my small trailer. This could introduce the idea of manoeuvering, and familiarity with towing out on the road.
As far as teaching people to tow their own trailer in their own vehicle, obviously that could create an insurance problem.
Would be difficult teaching people in their own units as obviously they would be staying in them !
I'm sure BSM carry proper driving school insurance like I do. This covers me to teach customers in their own cars providing that the car is also properly insured for the driver and they have a licence (full or provisional) for that class of vehicle.
The stumbling blocks are:
Towing and reversing a small trailer is a bit different to a caravan.
Most sites have a strict rule about not allowing learners to drive on site because of their insurance implications.

why so negative lion123? John has made what seems to me to be a logical helpful suggestion - unfotunately the SW is a long way for me to travel, but would certainly have considered something like this in the Yorkshire area - OH wants to do manauvering course, but like everything it's just difficult to fit in!!!
Think it would be a great idiea. how about setting a site first then looking into some sort of training area Westpoint for instance. sure someone in area would be able to supply an older caravan to use for the practise sessions maybe a dealer would help out there if they got some publicity on this site????? just a thought too ponder over.
