Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Vauxhall Zafira diesel 2008 1.9 CDTi 150 bhp to tow my Lunar Quasar 525 (2007). The 85% 'match' seems OK but I was wondering what anyone thought about the suitability? Thanks, Dai
The car seems a bit light to me. The figures I have for the caravan are 1395kg MTPLM, and the kerb weight of the car is 1457kg, making 85% 1238kg. I think the maximum tow is only 1300kg, so that would rule this match out.
Otherwise, it's stll a long way over, so I would say it's not a good idea. Unless you have more accurate weights?
Have alook at www.whattowcar.com as a guide. I thought Zafiras in general had lowish otw weights specified but I've never had one - just what I've read on here on occasions.
Hi Dai - according to the vehicle handbook the 150 kerbweight with towing gear is1658kg & max tow weight is 1500kg. Have not yet towed with mine but with a longish wheel base & short rear overhang it should make a good tug Denis
We towed a 1483 kg MTPLM Pageant S7 behind a Zafira 150 and had no stability issues. The only slight issue we had when reversing. Reverse gear is quite high so the clutch would have to be riden slightly. We have a mover so this was not an issue apart from when a road was blocked by an accident and we had to do a turn around in a farm gate.
Make sure your Zafira 2008 has the service book stamped at the correct date.We have just bought a 2008 Zafira 1.9 cdti 150 and many we looked at did not have the service done at 20000 miles or at the first anniversary(within 2 weeks).The warranty would be void if this hasn't been done.
The tow match will be fine as the 150 bhp Zafira is heavier.

Hi,You will find it very easy when towing, have the 09 Zafira 1.9ctdi 120bhp, good tow car for power,do'nt know if yours has the thick internal body panels, "If so be extra vigivant at juntions and roundabouts ,as it has very bad blind areas, mine has due to thick panels", if yours is the thinner panels then your view should be ok, Anyway after that bit of cation, congrats on new car and happy caravaning.
