I have an Award Daystar Caravan max loaded weight 1150kg. At present I am towing with a Rover 416. Although it pulls it ok, I am on maximum tow weight. I am thinking about changing it for a Ford Focus 1.8 TDDI diesel or 1.8 or 2.0l petrol. Can any advise me if either of these are ok.

We tow a Lunar Ariva 2 berth with a Ford Focus Zetec TDI 1.9 and it tows it very well. Pulls off quickly and goes up steep hills without problem. Not had it that long but seems to be okay in diesel consumption. OH feels it could tow a bit heavier caravan without problem.

We pull with a C max 1.8 tdci. Pulls like a train, and very good on fuel. Highly recomended.------------- Rob

The older focus engine is nowhere near as powerful as the TDCi units.
I have towed my avondale grampian with the car you have in mind & it was OK.
I much preferred my mondeo but its was not an unsafe or unsuitable match.
Just me, I like a bit more power. If you cannot stretch to a mondeo then it will be fine. The older TDDI engine is a lot cheaper to repair as well. (Doesnt cost £1000 for the injectors or a clutch).
Try and pack lightly, harder than i think it should be but the wife knows best it seems.
