Anyone tow with a Kia Soul? The specs for the diesel look good, apart from a 52kg nose weight. but that shouldnt be a problem for us. It won its class in the CC tow car of the year comp. So has anyone got one and does it really pull OK.

I guess the lack of responce means either no one has one, or lots of you have one but dont want to admit it in public.

I had a petrol one as a hire car the other week and was very underwhelmed by it. There was nothing I really liked about it, but equally nothing I really disliked, apart from it being quite sluggish, and not managing to do 300 miles on a tank of petrol (I suspect it may not have been as full as the gauge indicated possibly?).   I did have a look on the What Car website and reviews there seem to concur that the diesel is definitely the best option.

When my 6 year old son saw it, his comment was "Daddy, your hire car's ugly"!

Had a look at one a few weeks back,  needs a detatchable towbar though so that put me off.

..and have a look at the boot, there's more room up my nose.

Very old post I know but to answer the question, yes I have towed with the Kia Soul 1.6 Cdi. We are new to tourers and took the plunge buying an old Freedom Caravan late last year, we are entering retirement and want to tour about a bit while we can. So far we have used it once for a shakedown, scared the **** out of me towing, but the car was fine and didn't have any problems at all. Admitted its a lightweight Van but I wanted to ensure it didn't breach the 52KG nose weight (we tried the bathroom scale test and it was not even close) and I dont want to try and tow a large van until I get used to towing. We are quite looking forward to going away for our second trip once the weather warms up.

MrSteveVee, as you say you are new to towing, please be advised that for stable towing you should really be as close to (but not over) the car's maximum nose weight as possible. I would advise that as your car's noseweight is 52kg, load your outfit so that you have 52kg on the towball, as this will give the caravan maximum stability. Keep as much weight as possible low down, and adjust it to give 52kg on the towball but concentrated around the caravan axle. Never load the rear of the caravan to lower the noseweight. This can make it unstable.

Best Regards,
Colin

Oh wow, I didn't realise that, I just (wrongly!) assumed you should keep the nose weight as light as possible. Thanks for the heads up, I shall certainly look into this before the next venture out.

Appreciate the advice

Steve
