we have abit of wee problem the white plug on our giest xk 630 has melted from the middle pin out wards but being a german van the coulors are diffrent from a uk van can any one help
But the pin positions and what they do are identical.
So take a digital photo so you know what colour goes where and rewire the replacement plug exactly the same way.
And with the new plug dont wiggle it to align it or when you remove it or you will soon be back to square one. A slack centre pin making poor contact and burning. Simply push it in and pull it out straight. You are also quite likely to have to renew the car socket as that will also have seen too much heat.
You need to find out what made it melt. I'm guessing the fridge wire is too thin. Unless you want to change the whole cable for thicker wiring don't run your fridge on 12v while driving. The 12n/12s system was never used in Germany, yours has oviously been built for the UK market but the German factory has used incorrect(ie too thin) wiring, hence the wrong colours.
The real solution is to have the complete grey cable changed for correct spec, even if the van is out of warranty the supplying dealer should do this for you foc.

The usual cause is as I hinted above and is physical loosening of the pin that unfortunately carries a significant current.
The centre pin on the grey socket can serve as a "centring" device and some people wiggle it to couple and even uncouple the socket. Thus you find the pin closes up and becomes loose; this then has a serious detrimental effect trying to pass the 7 plus amps near continuously taken to power the fridge. So it heats up often burning the locating plates and wire insulation on both the plug and socket.
If your more disciplined in making and breaking this connection it will prove "adequate" however it is possible to twin this pin with a spare. I have seen this done but its not something I have found a need to do.

Well quite & the op states the colours on the 12s cable are non standard which suggests the wires could also be too thin for amount of current carried, so worth checking out.
When we first got our Avondale the grey plug was getting hot and eventually melted.Read somewhere to check the the earth wires from the fridge and charging curcuits were not connected together on the car,mine were so i have seperated them and had no trouble since.
I had the same problem no7 pin getting hot and melting the plastic, so what i did on the male caravan plug was connect pin 6 and pin 2 that gives you 2 live feeds and connect pin 7 and pin 5 and that gives you 2 earths, had no problem since, the only thing is when it goes for service you must tell them how you have it wired, or it will blow the fuse on the box of tricks they use to check your electrics with.
