that time has come to upgrade the towcar, does anyone know how the 2.2 X type jaguar would do as a towcar. dealer says weights are ok, but to be honest you don't see many Jags towing caravans. any info would be appreciated.
Lots of X types used for towing. They are just a Mk 3 Mondeo in fancy clothes and as such make an excellent tug. The DMF and injector issues are just the same as you could expect on any other manufacturers small diesel offering they all have problems occasionally. It's just that there are lots on Mondeos so there is a greater possibility of coming across people who have had the problem. I have had my mondeo 4 years now and apart from service the car I have had no repairs of any sort to do.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I was towing with a 2L Diesel estate and found it an awful towcar. Clutch prblems (a known weak area), and because it is so low the 'van was really buffeted. It never felt safe. It is also very low so ground clearence is not great. Friend towed with the saloon version and hated it as well. And he was only towing a trailer tent.
Was only looking at these cars the other day, as my next car.
I don't tow anymore so it seems a good buy but if you do tow, read this....

'Official' removable towbars made by Brink are not factory fitted and connecting the electrics can be very problematic so X-Type NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TOWING.

I am not a Mondeo fan. but if i had a choice of Mondeo or X type. i would have the Mondeo. the x type as crap head room & leg room front & back is bad. & the boot size????.
