Can anyone tell me what tyre pressure for an old Eldiss Whirlwind , I have tried both30lb and 35lb and they look flat. I think the van about 12or 13ft in length and 720Kg
720kg unladen? Always use the max laden weight. Unladen is only a guide as to how much you can load into it.
My avondale manual states weights could be + or - 5%. Extreme cases could be worse.
On checking the side plate on the van it shows M.G.W.750Kg and the tyres sizes are 155x13x78 ,I also have another pair of wheels that have165x13and theses are currently on the van.
You can calculate the tyre pressure. First look on the tyre wall and find the load rating and the max pressure. See here for info: Load rating info
Then find the fully loaded weight of your caravan.
The formula is:
max pressure x max weight of van
Working pressure = --------------------------------
2 x load rating
Obviously max weight and load rating should both be in same units, Kg. It is also probably a good idea to increase the working pressure by 5% to 10% as a safety margin.
The 2 x load rating is because each tyre can be loaded to the figure given, and on a single axle van there are two tyres.
Thanks for l that .When I asked at the garage that fitted the new tyres last year they suggested that as they looked flat to put 40lb but no more as it could be dangerous .
Only now am I aware of the max tyre pressure on the side wall also the max loading..So if a tyre bay doesn't know about about tyre spec what chance does anyone buying a second hand van .
