Don't mean to be the barer of bad news but I had the 2.2 150bhp and its towing limit was 1300kg, the rear end was very soft so I would recommend spring assistors and generally it was a horrible experience every time I towed, I used to dread it.
What is the mtplm of your van ?

Not sure which exact model you have but we have a 2009 Avensis Tourer TR 2.0 diesel, which has kerb weight of 1,520kg and a towing weight of 1,600kg.
We tow both our caravans, a Bailey Ranger GT60 620-4 mtplm 1,326kg and a Bailey Pageant Burgundy 1,400kg and we have not required any suspension mods to the car which tows both caravans no problem, at 36mpg towing (normal 46/48mpg).

(slight thread hijack, sorry) I was delighted when I traded the Rover in for the Saab. The Graystons which I had for the Focus fitted the Rover, and I used them on it, and I found that the assisters were also the spec for the Saab. But we haven't needed them; in fact, as the 'van is dead level with car & 'van mildly loaded, the nose of the 'van would be slightly up if I were to fit them, not good for stability. I think most estates now look like they have good rear suspension and probably don't need any assistance, unless they have particularly soft springs.
