Hi just back from a weeks camping ,the night before we left to come home i decided to check the trailer lights . I plugged the electrics in with out the trailer being hitched up and nothing worked , so i procceded to hitch the trailer up and on doing so i had sparks coming off the tow bar is this normal ? I unplugged the electrics and hitched the trailer ,then connected the electric socket again and everything worked as it should but i would have though the electrics would work without the trailer being hitched up . any ideas ? cheers mick

sounds like the earth is being achieved through the hitch rather than the hook-up, it will work but is not the way it's supposed to...

problem could be either the car or the trailer so unless you know where to start it would be better to get a sparky to have a quick look
