I also have the detachable one, simply because it is removable.
Which is best depends on what you want to tow and what you want to do with the car when its not towing.
We only tow our caravan and an Ifor Williams trailer both use the standard height ball so I don't need anything else and if I go off road I am not ploughing at the same time.
