hi

I had to guess alittle as you need to give more details on car/caravan etc i.e. model year etc

Match report

The Club advises that a Peugeot 207 1.4 HDi 90 S (2006) should not tow an Abbey GTS 212 (1993)

  • This outfit combination could be a match.2 Kerbweight ratio: 97%
  • The caravan's laden weight is close to the car's kerb weight, increasing the risk of stability concerns. This outfit should not be driven by novice towers, and does not meet Club guidelines. Note that a small increase in ratio (to perhaps 90%) is acceptable if all other criteria are passed.
  • This outfit combination does not match.3 Towing limit ratio: 121%
  • The caravan's laden weight is over the car's towing limit, which the Police may consider unroadworthy and which may invalidate the car’s insurance. It is not usually practical to lightly load the caravan to mitigate this issue.
  • This outfit combination does not match.3 Gross train weight ratio: 107%
  • The sum of the car and the caravan’s fully laden weights exceeds the car’s gross train weight. There is significant risk of the car’s GTW being exceeded in use, which would be illegal, and thus this combination is not recommended.
  • This outfit combination does not match.3 Nose weight ratio: 177%
  • The car’s nose weight is significantly too low to safely tow the caravan. To achieve an acceptable nose weight for the car, there would be a real risk of the caravan then having insufficient nose weight to ensure adequate high speed stability.
  • This outfit combination could be a match.2 BHP per ton : 35
  • The car's engine power is quite low to tow this caravan. It may be sluggish and uncomfortable on hills or at junctions.

Hi Ollie! Sorry for the lack of information, I have some details here from the car handbook.....

kerb weight is 1313-1294
GVW is 1640-1620
GTW is 2580

also says Braked trailer (with load transfer within the GTW limit) is 1150

I hope that helps, but looking at the stats you gave it looks like i will be looking for another car, thanks so much for you help :)

Consider part exchanging the car for a 307 Diesel if you like Peugeot , it will be more economical and should be a much better match when towing . Auto is best but there will be a small cost in extra fuel . Auto will also make starting on hills and manouvering so much easier for you if you are fresh to towing .
