If you have a freelander and it's reliable you can't go wrong with one really. We had an 02 TD4 from new till a year ago and it towed like a dream for the 4 years we towed with it.
Do be aware though, that once things start going wrong with a Freelander, it kind of escalates (well in our case it did) and in the latter years we spent thousands on repairs/LR technicians/Servicing etc. So we traded ours in.
OH would only ever have another LR if it was in warranty only.
Then there is the best car of all, the Skoda scout 4x4 or Octavia 4x4 no buttons to select the 4x4 when needed as it automatically does it without you noticing

We also have the vectra sri 150 and it tows like a dream. Fuel consumption is good both towing and not. We tow our caravan with a weight 1415kg and its a great car. Would defo reccomend going for the 150 over the 120 any day. Its really fun to drive. Had a freelander in the past and would never have one again.
I agree the 150 bhp vectra is a great car (I own one) just make sure, if purchasing, that all the common faults have been rectified, otherwise, ensure you have deep pockets as they can be total money pits!!
I will be having another Ford Mondeo Estate tdci when I change my car in March next year it tows our Swift Challenger 530 with no problems at all and gives me 32mpg plus it has a massive boot do no silly roof box needed!
We have had several Vectras and all have towed well, only problem is its useless on a wet or snowy pitch hence we are looking at 4x4. Otherwise I would recomend the vectra but do go for the 150bhp diesel.
