You're the second person I know of of with a Passat to have a problem on the same stretches of motorway. I ride of motorbike and the M6 near Wigan, and the M56 past Frodsham are horrendous for the inner lane being distorted by HGVs. So it's just those sections it's probably more to do with the appalling road surface than your Passat.
