Your Volvo appears to be 1415 kg kerbweight, is that what it says on the plate or in the handbook? If so, it seems the Auvergne is about 1350 kg fully loaded but that will depend which year it is.
Ideally you want to be no more than 85% but definitely no more than 100% of kerbweight if you are inexperienced.
Check your noseweight too, online seems to suggest 75 kg max but again check the hand book.
I know my set up is not exactly the same but the information might be of some use to you,
we have a 2005 v70 diesel and tow a 2009 bailey senator california (poss slightly heavier than pagaent) and we have no problems at all with it, as for the clutch sorry i cant help you on that has ours is an automatic.

You will need to quote all the weights before you can get an opinion. If the clutch is smelling, that will turn out to be expensive. Fuel can seem cheap by comparison.
I believe in large cars and automatics. Then you don't have problems like this.

Hi, After trying to find the actual kerbweight in manuals and trying to contact volvo, all with no success, i got the vehicle weighed on a weighbridge which is calibrated each year and is also usd by vosa at certain times and the actual weight came in at 1786 kgs.
My advise is get your vehicles weighed to be certain, dont just go off the manuals.

Plus the fact, your car will be working very hard to tug the van and all of you, so reducing your fuel economy even more.
A pajero will tug almost anything without breaking a sweat.

I agree with you there Rich I have the 2 litre Volvo V70 on a 98 plate I have a coachman Wonderer 5 berth and its a fairly heavy van.
My Volvo drinks the petrol when towing .The V70 is a good car for towing mine is an old car that is not worth much money so I really do give it a bit of a hammering .Its really good on the hills for a car and holds well at 60 MPH on the motoway even on the steep hills .
I have however towed my van with a Range Rover and a Ford Explorer and what you say is right the Pejero wont use much more fuel than the Volvo V70
