I don't think either is "better" than the other, but one may be more suitable than the other for your particular circumstances.
For example, if you mainly use a caravan (or motorhome, FC or TT) you could join the Caravan Club (or both!), or if you frequently use a tent you'd probably go for the Camping and Caravanning Club.
Both cost about £40 a year, have a selection of usually very well maintained Club Sites, and issue Certificates to enable owners of suitable land to offer accomodation for up to five 'vans (plus a number of tents in the case of the C&CC) on often very basic and inexpensive sites, as well as organising rallies/meets, and (C&CC) Temporary Holiday Sites.
Most of the above are only available to members of the relevant Club, although most Club Sites will take non-members at an extra nightly charge, so for example the C&CC membership would work out at less than a week's non-member pitch fees.
If it helps, membership of the Caravan Club includes a monthly magazine which is as good, if not better, than the ones you find in newsagents. TBH, that's the only thing that keeps me a member of the CC (I don't go to their sites very often).

As does the C&C club.
OP there's really not a lot in it,both clubs offer pretty much the same although through my experience of the sites i've visited the caravan club seem to favour hardstanding pitches whereas the C&C club have a mix(grass, hardstanding)and in my opinion some of the C&C club sites could do with refreshing but again thats only my opinion. As has been mentioned its really personal choice but you won't go far wrong with either or both.
We are not members of either, we turned up at a caravan club site (after a long tow) in our Range Rover and Avondale) in the peak district a couple of years ago only to be told--
"Oh no we have nothing for the likes of you" we left and have NEVER been back to a caravan club site so far as I know.
We are members of both clubs and find the CC better.
Some people maybe offended by this, but CC members treat the services with more respect than CCC members do. I have lost count to the amount of CCC members who don't flush the toilets, mop out the showers, clean the basins etc. Plus CC members seem to have more respect for the rules, with regards to noise.
Plus the showers are better with the CC, you dont have a stupid button you have to keep on pressing and you can adjust the temperature.

How do you identify the Club members?
Even on a members-only site, the "guilty" could well be, like yourself, members of both Clubs!
In our case is was obvious, the attendant who drove us and quote; "the likes of you" away from the CC was, impolite, downright rude, derogatory and full of class distinction.
Perhaps my Range Rover had some motorway dust on it or maybe our accents were wrong for that individual but it was not nice.
I find it strange that not one has offered kind words or apology or other encouragement to get involved again but hey ho if it looks like a horse and sound like a horse the chances are that is is a horse.
It was a shame as we always though the cc sites were nice places to be.
As a member of both clubs, I have come across wardens in each who, to put it politely, would be better suited to employment elsewhere.
However, these people are very much in the minority and the majority of wardens are very welcoming, friendly and helpful people; all organisations have their bad apples.
I have also had poor service from private sites.
The great advantage of the clubs to me, is the ability to use CL or CS pitches. We have met people we consider friends who own these sites and we return regularly to visit them - always receiving a warm welcome. I personally never use site facilities, preferring to use those in the van. OH usually uses facilities if they are there but can survive without them.

I assume you were members of the CC at the time? Was the site simply full?
I find it difficult to believe that any warden would behave like that - it is a business, after all, and if you're a member and they have spaces, I can't imagine they would turn you away for no reason.

In this case it's true to say that alternative employment would have been a solution.
The site was most obviously not full, when I asked if there was another site in the area the answer was no, I had been driving a very long time and really needed to get of the road, we found another site a few miles away and were made very welcome indeed, we have been back to that site several times now.
The words used were exactly as quoted and that was the first words spoken in response to a request for a pitch, it was shocking, upsetting and downright insulting unless of course nice looking Range Rovers and clean Avondale caravans are a problem, I don't think so ;-)
Maybe the attendant was having a bad day but it certainly put us off and tbh we have avoided these sites since, it was not a good experience for anyone not least our 2 young children.
I suppose one question could be should be try again next season or might we find the same elsewhere, I have never found anything like it at any other site.
