What is the best Mondeo TDCI for both towing and mixed solo driving, present caravan has an MTPLM of 1200kgs any future van will probably not exceed the 85% rule of thumb. Possibly have the option of either engine but will go manual.

I have a Euro IV 140bhp Mondeo & tow a 1480kg caravan with no issues. I have read on forums that the 163 model has less torque at lower revs so with a manual one you could issues when towing.

Thanks Zafiral , I have had a look and decided that the 140 bhp looks the best bet, I want something that I can drive economically when not towing. At present I have a Passat 140 which tows very well, thought the 163 might have given that bit extra omph, but it looks like it may not be the answer.

some of the bods on talkford reckon a 140 with a remap is possibly better than a 163.
