Our trusty SWB Terrano SE has pulled our van back from Ferry Meadows for the last time; while we were there we traded it in for a 55 plate Sorento XE. We swap it over on Monday!
We have been looking for a suitable replacement for this our second Terrano, and have looked at everything from Freelander and X-Trail to Touareg and X5 and we've always had the Sorento in the corner of our eye as the car we'd always compare the rest to. There were 10 of them at Ferry Meadows on Saturday morning when we rolled up, (surely all those fellow caravanners can't be wrong!)
We have loved both of our Terranos and they pulled our Burstner fine, but they can be a bit 'agricultural' and we aren't fans of the LWB version. We got a great trade in for our 98 Terrano and the Sorento is a 55 plate XE with 40K on the clock, 1 owner and fistidious KIA service history and is a beaut of a car that the first owner, (obviously a caravanner), has really looked after. The Witter tow pack with twin electrics is a big bonus, as was the new tow ball and spare rear number plate in the boot! It's even got the self levelling suspension too.
The missus is well happy and we pick it up on Monday all being well. Might get another trip in this year now just to compare it to the Terrano with our van on the back!
Good choice, brill tow car, good points are the self levelling suspension 12v sockets at the front, middle and the boot (G8 for your extra cooler box/fridge), and loads of other stuff, too much to mention really, I have a 56 plate xe bought from new done 42k without any probs,
Made the same switch last year. The Sorrie is great and tows beautifully. however i think you will notice that the Terrano had a much harder tow feeling. It took me a few miles to get used to the sorrie. Hope you enjoy the new car. Value for money they are fantastic

Mines the same - tows well nomatter what you hitch up! Its coming up 3 years old now, i have owned it from new and it has been as relaible as rain in the Lake District!
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
I've had a Terrano from new and I can't wait to get rid! I've has all sorts of problems with it. The clutch and dual mass fly wheel went at 24,000 miles and 30.000 miles later the gear box went along with another clutch! With all the other faults it's cost me a fortune (I joke to mates that I've replaced everything apart from the rear view mirror and one of the back wheel nuts!). I'm saving up and expect that next year I'll trade it in for a Sorento or a Hyundai Santa Fe. I think I've been pretty unlucky with the Terrano but have religeously had the oil / filter changed every 6 months and kept on top of the maintenance. I also don't razz it about and don't usually go over 60 mph on the motorway (think I must have bought a Friday afternoon built one!!!).
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
