I am considering buying an Avensis (2003-08 model) hatchback 2.2 diesel. I know that it's limited to pulling 1300kg but my van is only 1250kg.

My questions are:

(1) Does anyone have an outfit like this - and do they recommend it?

(2) How high from the ground is the towball? (without van attached)

(3) Does it need spring assistors?

Hi , i did have a 59 plate 2.0 diesel and found it very underpower, towball very low i only towed with twice and got rid of it swopped it for a honda crv avery good tow car hope this helps

I thought the diesel was 1200kg, the petrol was 1300kg...
Either way, Toyota really shot themselves in the foot with that Avensis & such a daft low towing limit. We had a 1470kg Verso & that could only tow 1050kg. Ended up buying a Mondeo. Shame as we really loved Toyota's cars.

Towball will be 350mm - 420mm from the ground when loaded.
Unless the springs are worn then it maybe lower.

How high when empty will depend on the model and how worn the springs are.

Checking the figures, Not sure if its a mistake but it says 75kg for most towbars. But then says 56kg.

Which i think would be too low for stable towing.
