As a previous Scenic owner, unfortunately I only have bad news.

Renault quote tow weights 'driver only' & on my 05 1.9 DCi, when the car was laden (which it will be when you are going on holiday), the tow weight is only 950kg.

This will seriously restrict the available caravans. I am sure there are caravans around within this weight restriction, but your choice will be reduced.

Look on ebay for 80s ABI Marauder or Monza, lightweight basic caravans that go for only a few £100s, even the larger ones come out at less than 900kg all up. Check very carefully for damp, obviously.

We have a mid 90's Avondale Perle Argos, it's a 5 berth and max tow weight is 950kg. Lovely little van if you can get one in good nick. Ours was £2400 but it had been garaged over winter and only had one owner. Go on the caravan club classifieds page and see what you can find. Just be prepared to thoroughly check it out before you buy, take advice from here for what to look for!
