Hello, I'm looking for some help with kerbweights on these cars - I've searched around the internet and keep getting different figures.

2002 Ford Focus, 5 door 1.8 LX Tdci 115bhp

2003 Ford Focus, 5 door 1.8 Tdci Zetec 115bhp

2005 Ford Focus, 5 door 1.8 TD LX 115bhp - is this the same as the above and is a TDci? I can't find any mention of a TD LX.

These are all for sale as I'm looking to change my car so I can purchase a 2 berth caravan.

Are these suitable for towing? What will be the maximim weight of van I could tow?
What is the difference between each of the cars?

All much the same, the 2005 should be the newer model & any of them will tow a small/med 2 birth no problem.

Thanks, but I'm still confused by the max tow weight of 1300kg as on different websites it lists this figure but the 85% figure is different.

It seems to list the max towing weight of 1300 kg, but a different kerb weight - how do I find out the correct kerb weight so I can work out the 85% towing figure.

I thought the 85% towing figure was based on the kerb weight?

1300kg is the maximum weight the car can tow and still pull away on a steep incline 1 in 10 or something?

That doesnt mean thats the safe towing figure.

Its recommended that you tow a max of 85% of the cars UNLADEN kerbweight.

Which is usually much lower.

Some cars cannot legally tow 85% of their unladen weight SO the lower limit applies.

Kerbweights will vary a lot, Depends what wheels and other options are fitted.

The logbook usually lists the kerbweight and max towing weights.
