Hi guys I was on here last week I was after a santafe to tow my caravan but the deal fell through. Ok so I have a mondeo at the moment but the problem i have got is im a bricklayer cant afford to have two cars so what are my best options?. The caravan isnt a big one its an Abbi gold marauder, Would a medium size van be ok? cos I can kill two birds with one stone then, I was thinking citroen berlingo, peugot partner that type of thing. The mondeo i have now has been ruined thru work and its a petrol so i want a diesel. I have tried looking for towing weights with different vans but can only find them for cars. Im really stuck here as my heart was set on the santa fe, my budget is £2000 any help is much appreciated

ABI Marauders are all under a tonne all up so a Berlingo van will tow it ok. I used to tow with a 1.9 diesel Berlingo car & it was slow uphill. The 1.6 hdi diesel or older(pre '05)2litre hdi diesel(not many fitted in vans tho)will be much better but if you only want to spend £2k I would go for 1.9 diesel for cheaper repairs & put up with the slowness.

1.9 diesel will go for 200k miles but ensure cambelt has been changed at interval, 80k miles.

I suppose its worth pointing out that older Berlingo cars are often cheaper than the van versions so it might be a good bet because as pointed out some campsites don't like vans although I would guess they would be more worried about transit sized vans. The older Berlingo car has 1100kg tow weight & 70kg noseweight.

Tentz I love you. a guy said in work that it would pull it ok but i wanted to be sure, where did you find the information out? everytime i done that towcar thing the only Abby was the other Abbi spelt with an I and could not find the marauder anywhere. As for the sites not allowing vans thats a good point but im sure i saw a van on the campsite that we were on, its not as if I go far in the caravan just 20 miles up the rd from merthyr to brecon, its far enough to enjoy a welcome break and close enough if im needed back in merthyr

abbi = ABI Marauder. Quite light for their size from what i remember.

Fairly basic when i looked at them.

http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/

You may find one within your price range here, if its VAT free all the better

Have you thought about one of these or similar, you could get a secondhand hard top for the back

I believe this one has the same engine as whats used in the London cabs
