I HAVE NO SIDE LIGHTS WORKING ON MY CARAVAN WHEN I USE THE LEFT INDICATOR THE LEFT SIDE LIGHT FLASHES WITH THE INDICATOR BUT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH THE RIGHT INDICATOR I HAVE CHECKED THE WIRE CONECTIONS TO THE CAR AND CHANGED THE SEVIEN PIN PLUGS ON CAR AND CARAVAN TOW CAR 2000 VW PASSAT
Sounds like they are shorting out. I had this a couple of years ago on my old Folding Camper, water got into the rear light clusters, corroded the terminals and caused them to short out. When I touched the brakes I got the Blackpool illuminations!
I would take off the lenses and check the contacts for signs of water ingress.
Why not take it to a dealership to correct the problem. You cannot legally drive on the road with defective lights?

Unless you are already at a dealership, as you can't drive on the road, are you suggesting the whole outfit is low loaded, usually when you are recovered, the caravan is towed wheels on floor so the lights would still be needed technically.
If it was me, I would try a light board connected to the car so you can assertain if the fault is the car or the caravan.
I have seen very similar problems and found that wet , corroded bulbs in the caravan lights can cause just these symptoms. (Although I have seen it on old car lights too in the past, but modern cars no where near as bad.) Remove and replace (or thoroughly clean) the bulbs. Dry out the light units with tissue and /or a hairdryer. Cleaning the contact points with fine emery paper (wet and dry ) can also be of value. Then check for water ingress points and seal as required . Also you may have poor earthing of the bulbs and /or light units. You can clean up earthing points by removing fixing screws or nut and bolt etc and cleaning/drying the contact areas with fine emery cloth/paper.Follow and trace the earth wires back to chassis/body to find the earthing points. Once you get the lights working, a quick spray with WD40 or similar helps prevent re-occurrence. Hope this helps.

Not such a silly idea......If you are stopped and you can evidence to the officer that you know of the problem and that you are taking the van to be repaired that should be the end of it. At worst the officer will issue you with a Vehicle Defect Rectification Notice that requires you to get it fixed and evidence to the Police that it has been done.
In the alternative call out an engineer.
