I am hoping one or more of you could clarify a query I have regarding the towing weight limits of my car.
I am looking at buying a 2006 Swift Challenger 520 - its unladen weight is 1345KG, my car is a 2007 mondeo estate, 2 ltr petrol LX. 2070 GVW, 3510 gross train weight.
I understand that if I deduct GTW from GVW I am left with the maxium safe weight of caravan (3510 - 2070 = 1440 kg)
is this right? can anyone tell me if the caravan . car are a good match?
The Mondeo is one of those cars that cannot load to its maximum gross vehicle weight AND tow its maximum towing weight as the two combined will exceed the cars gross train weight.
Your figures say "SAFE WEIGHT" Which is not correct. Thats the maximum legal weight.
Legal and safe are 2 separate issues.
The 85% "recommended" not a legal figure is 85% of the cars unladen weight which will be approx 1300kg. So ideally you want a caravan with a GROSS weight of 1300kg or less.
Fromy your figures its possible the mondeo wont be a suitable towcar for that caravan. Approx 1600kg laden?
Way too heavy and over 100% of the cars kerbweight.
