Can anyone help with this? I am looking at getting either a Sorento or Santa Fe and would be interested in people views of either good and bad it would be about 6 months to 1 year old and would be towing our Swift Challenger 530.
------------- Easter - Burford
May - WoodFarm Dorset
June - IOW
Aug - can't decided
October - Yorkshire
Plus many more weekends at every possible chance!
I have an 08 Santa Fe so I can only comment on that. It is a fantastic car and tows with ease. I would have no problems in recommending it. I don't have any negative comments to make but others may have a different experience.
I have done 30k miles with my santa fe 2010 and love it, very versitile, loads of space and no issues towing or solo. I have the automatic and used to tow a small 1100kg which i never knew was there really but have just changed to a much bigger Sterling 1500kg and still really good to tow with. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and my mate has the same car but manual and he would agree. That said the sorento is the same engine so should be as good but i believe a little more expensive.
Same as James - our 2010 Santa Fe tows a europa 530 so practically the same van as yours. Absolutely no problems towing, the 7 seat versions have self leveling suspension which is a bonus when towing. 5 year warranty is reassuring.
we have the santa f'e V6 auto, petrol.its a spoilt 2004.pulls our bailey MTPLM of 1272 kgs with easy.makes you feel safe too.would go for the 2.2 diesel as ours is heavy on petrol.the 5 year warranty has been very good too.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Recently purchased an 08 sante fe diesel manual, pulls our swift colonsay no probs, 1500 mtplm. Would def recommend, we thought about sorento but decided we didn't need as heavy a towcar.
Have you seen the new Sorento? Painfully ugly from any angle but the front...
I'm biased but I think the SF is a great looking car...ok, not a hugely important function of a car but would sway me.
SF also cheaper to buy and will be slightly cheaper to run (smaller engine, less weight = less fuel) but also only 5 year warranty against Kia's 7 year.
I drove the old Sorento and found the ride far too soft but I'm sure the new ones are probably much better. Have they got self-levelling suspension? The 7-seat SF has and is a great towing asset).

A quote from one man last week " are sorrentos any good? There were 10 of them on the site I was on". I have a 54 XS . Beautiful vehicle. A quote from I think David Klyne " its like driving an arm chair out of a London Gentlemans club" lol
We tried a Santa Fe 4 years ago and did not like it, the steering was over light and it felt very bouncy(almost like tyres were over inflated!) I know they have been updated since then.
Tried a Sorento (Old model) and bought it. Now on our second-lts one of the last of the old models.
We will try a new Sorento, and Santa Fe when we come to change, also considering Freelander 2, RR Evoque or a crewcab pickup-but thats in the future.
Our Sorrie is big and comfortable, has been reliable and being the Titan has all the toys. Its black with 18" wheels and sidesteps, a-bar so looks really smart.
Its also a damn fine towcar-60mph where legal at 2000 rpm, lots of torque too!
As stated earlier there are an awful lot towing caravans!
Yes it is an evil planet destroying 4x4 and we should be thoroughly ashamed of ourselves-but it was pretty useful in the winter too!
Hangs head in shame-not!!!

------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
We have a 55 Sorento and it's not been a great success reliability wise. Just a couple of months out of warranty, with about 20,000 on the clock, the fuel injectors packed up, that was a £1000, Kia not interested in making any sort of goodwill gesture other than saying the injectors should last 80,000 miles plus - just what I wanted to hear! Then two weeks ago the differential gave up the ghost, at around 45,000 miles. Took it to local KIA dealers, who were brilliant by the way, who said if the drive shaft had gone too, it would take 95 days to get a replacement! Thankfully it didn't - touch wood, off to France for 3 weeks in the morning! - but the bill was still £1600.00!!! I wouldn't buy another one.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
