Our car is a Mazda 6 diesel 2.2L (125) hatchback, 2009. Does anyone use one as a towcar, and what will it pull. Any advice is welcome.

To be doubly sure check the log book. Towing information should be listed there. Section O

Figures i have suggest 1600kg maximum. But that maybe over 100% of the cars unladen kerbweight.

So maybe 1350kg gross laden weight for the caravan?

Your caravans 1440kg?   So about 93%? Load the van lightly and put as much as possible in the car.

Double check the gross train weight.

Is it still based on the Mondeo? The Mondeo cannot tow the max limit with a fully loaded car.
It would exceed the gross train weight.

Thanks for replying.

On the log book its says we can tow 1600kg. The kerbweight is 1550kg. The caravan is 1400kg if fully laden. It's not a perfect match, but the dealer says our car will tow without any problems providing we load it correctly. We won't be using an awning and there is no mover attached, so we can keep weight to a minimum. Can extra supplies be carried in the car to reduce weight in the caravan, nothing too heavy, just cans of food, pop etc. We're not sure what the rules are.

Another opinion would be appreciated, thanks.

We stopped taking the cans of food. Its surprising how much it weighs and half the time we ended up bringing it home anyway.

2 cans can be close to 1kg. So many supermarkets close to the holiday destinations. Its easier to get what we need when we need it.
