Hi, I passed my test after JAN 97, and have got a nissan almeria 2.2 dci 112bhp do i need to take the test to allow me to tow a abi rallyman jubille 1993 model, the total mam for the van is 1045 kg, my understanding is as this is over 750kg but the total weight of the van and car is under 3500kg im fine as im on my current licence.

You ned to check your V5 for the Mass in service of the car which must be more than 1045kg, if it is not then your are stuffed. If it is then you need to consider the rest of this message.  

Then you need to find the vin plate on the car ( usually under the bonnet or on one of the door pillars ) and check the weights. The top weight is the  maximum Gross vehicle weight the second number is the maximum train weight.

Now you need to add the 1045kg to the Maximum gross vehicle weight and if that is less than 3500kg then you are fine just as long as when you when off the sum of the cars actual weight and the caravans actual weights is less than the maximum train weight. It is a lot easier than it sounds.

Before 1997 up to 8500 KG

After 3500 KG  If you think your over the second figure get someone to take you to the local weigh bridge for a combined weight

I would suspect your total weight to be in the region of 2800 KG well within what your allowed to tow
