What do Ford Mondeo tow like because yesterday i was on my way home i passed this outfit Ford Mondeo + Compass Corona Club 505 and the Jockey wheel was nearly touching the road either this was pack wrong the front of the van was very low down when i tow i level all the way through. what your verdict on this ...........
The MK4 doesnt seem to have as many fans as the MK3.
Too much tech and not enough money spent on the quality.
Says who ??? i've had both and yes the mk3 was a good car, couldnt fault it really however the mk4 is far better
quality ?? i would presume a car thats better on fuel, more powerful, bigger and heavier & cheaper to tax is an improvement, not forgeting issues with DMF and Injectors are now a thing of the past.
All these improvements have kept the second hand prices higher than the old model. you bought a 5 year old in 2009 for 2k a 5 year old mk4 will now cost £3500 + and thats with a 140k on the clock
Grampian i would suggest you push the boat out and buy one, then you will see for yourself why its a better car
Hi bessie he got a ( Ford Mondeo) but i like the model you have but it would have be a New Ford C Max with the same engine but with the powershift this would suit my lower limbs .............

Sorry have to disagree. My mk4 140 TDCi Titanium X has really moved the game on compared to my brothers 54 plate mk3 130 TDCi Ghia X that he also bought nearly new.
The mk4 is a far more refined drive, I found the gears & clutch too heavy on the mk3 & in my opinion the steering was too sensitive for motoway use. Engine refinement is in a different league too. Some of the suspension & drivetrain components appear longer lasting than mk3 models too.
mk4 is far nicer to drive and looks better but my 2007 140tdci has had more problems than the 02 tddi .
personally wouldnt touch a mk3 2 litre tdci other than the last year of production due to injector issues . 2.2 used different injectors i believe ? tddi bullet proof and simple !!
looking forward to seeing the mk5 next year

You can get MK4's for £2500. 130k miles. Which is not an issue for me if its got the paperwork to show its been looked after.

MK4's do get DMF failures also. I dont think there is a car with a DMF that doesnt get failures. A lot is how its driven. And the MK3's low tickover speed doesnt help and people trickling along in traffic at tickover soon puts extra strain on the DMF.
My sister had hers done at 70k miles. Mainly because she doesnt use enough revs and sits nattering for hours with the engine ticking over.

I agree no matter what car you buy it will have issues along the way.

As i said earlier the mk3 is a great car and your right has many followers, the mk4 is the same but a new improved version, given time i'm sure all those currently driving mk3 will end up in a mk4 and see for themselves.
I tow with a mk3 Mondeo 2.0 tdci 115bhp, have to say its the best tow car ive ever had. Until tomorrow it pull's an Elddis Firestorm but we pick up a Bailey Pageant Provence s7 which is much heavier so i'll let you know. But so far I can't complain, returned 35mpg on a trip to Cornwall with the van, solo currently 53.5mpg knocking round town. Look for a service history don't be put off by the dreadded DMF yes they're common but look how many are on the road, get a good one and you won't go wrong.
I can answer that question, your new Bailey will tow really well, the Mondeo will have no problems with the weight, I tow a 1450kg hymer with my identical car and it is superb, fuel consumption is like yours I get 33 to 35 mpg towing depending on the weather.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
My opinion is that the ford mondeo is brilliant for the job of towing,as we have had two mondeo's and have towed our caravan all over the country.
They are a reliable work horse,If you can get a diesel model that will be cheaper in the long run.

Well picked up our new van much heavier than the last pulled it with ease back from glossop down the M56, it did loose power a little quicker than before but hey i'm pulling a van 250kgs heavier so I suppose its to be expected. I can really recomend the model i've got 1 thing thats a must tho is cruise control, just sit back with it on and relax and watch the miles fly by.

As mentioned in one of my posts on 8/9/12 we went with a Skoda Octavia as all we need to tow with it is a 500kg un braked trailer.
