Morning all,

I am looking to buy a newish (2-3 year old)  diesel C5 Auto estate-I know it's French but I really do like them! Unfortunately looking at the specs it seems that the max tow limit is 1300kg and noseweight at 57kg!

Does anyone tow with the auto as it's looking like I'll either have to buy a manual (never towed with one in 12 years) or look at other big estates. I need an estate as have two dogs. I need a car around the size of a Vauxhall Omega estate.

Any advice would be more than welcome.

I had the 2002 C5 2.0HDi Saloon (until January this year), very good tow car, self-levelling suspension, towing limit 1,500kg and noseweight 75kg, had to change it due to on-going electrical problems. I decided on an Estate car with extra traction, looked at VW and Audi and then thought, Skoda have the same engines and chassis.

Now I have the Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4, 138bhp, torque 320nm/1,750-2,500rpm, K/weight 1,495kg, towing limit 1,600kg, nose weight 75kg. You could also have a look at the Superb Estate, larger with higher weights. Mine is manual, there are automatic versions, and have the benefit of Haldex 4x4 on demand, there are also standard versions without Haldex and there is plenty of load carrying capability.

Having had 3 Citroens, Xantia and C5, in my opinion the modern Skoda’s are very good, I get 34mpg towing, worth a look; just miss the self-levelling suspension, but then the estate suspension is good.
